PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Dear Waddell Families,

January ended on a snowy note and we are hoping the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow on February 2 so we have an early spring. Here are some highlights from Waddell from the past few weeks:

We welcomed Rosemary Medina and Anisa Stuart, both are paraprofessionals in our Everyday Program. They will support our students and families at Waddell.

In December my wife and I welcomed a daughter and in January Mrs. Loveland and her husband welcomed a son.

January was an exciting time for our students at Waddell. Christian Lawrence was honored as Waddell’s recipient of the MLK Award for being positive role model, great friend and good sport. All classes participated in “Bubble,” a presentation from the Connecticut Science Center where students learned the science behind suds and what makes their shapes and so much more. Our 4th grade Orchestra and Band put on an instrumental performance for their families, which was fantastic. Waddell’s Robotics’ Team completed in the first every Manchester VEX IQ Competition with the help of Ms. DeSantis. The Robotics Team put in a lot of hours after school and were rocking out to Styx’s as they built their robots. Great work Team!!

We are now into February and will be starting the renovations to Waddell. Superintendent Geary came to Waddell to give an update on the renovations and explained why the renovations were happening in January. We were able to record and post the meeting to Facebook Live which was a first for Waddell. Please visit Waddell’s school webpage if you would like to see the recording. For more information, articles, and pictures of the proposed renovation, please visit our main page, www.mpspride.org, where you will find it as one of the main stories. We anticipate having another evening in the May with the Superintendent to discuss progress at Waddell and the transition to the Cheney Building in Bennet this upcoming fall.

This month we have a lot of exciting events that our students and staff will be attending. The 4th and 5th graders will be visiting UCONN and will be attending a women’s basketball game. The women will be trying to keep their undefeated season record going against SMU and we are very able to be a part of this streak! Go Huskies! The PTA has their Book Swap on February 24th, we hope to see many of you there. And finally, a group of parents and staff will be working with the Anti-Defamation League to help with making sure that Waddell School feels like second home for all of our students and families. We are very excited to see what they will bring back as resources for our community.

Go Eagles!

Tim Field
Interim Principal
