Dear Waddell Families,
It is with great excitement that I am writing to you! I returned from maternity leave on Monday, May 1, to piles of welcome back letters from all of your amazing children. Their creativity and thoughtfulness was refreshing and a huge reminder of what I had missed for the past few months. They have grown, not only in height, but greatly in their academics!
I have heard countless praise from our families and our staff regarding Mr. Field’s leadership in my absence and am deeply grateful for all he has done and the support you have all provided him. Over the past month, our students have experienced the annual UConn and Mystic Aquarium field trips, attended the Lincoln Theater to see a performance of a book they have read in class, and celebrated our diversity in the Multicultural Fair. As we look ahead into the remainder of the year, we will be embarking on our annual 3rd Grade Walking Tour, 5th grade visit to Bennet Academy, Spring Concert, Talent Show, and the first Teacher/Student Kickball Game with Robertson School. Among our many other field trips and classroom celebrations, we will be embarking on our state assessments in grades three through five. At this time, it will be important for our students to be well rested with a good night’s sleep and have a well-balanced breakfast to ready the mind!
It is with great anticipation that we are beginning our renovations and preparing for our move to Bennet Academy. The construction crews have begun working and have been extremely flexible and mindful of its impact on our classrooms to ensure that their work does not interfere with our students’ learning. The classrooms at Bennet Academy are getting flooring and ceiling installed, as well as beautiful cabinetry! It is an extremely exciting time and I encourage you to visit the renovation portion of our website to see pictures and read about these upcoming changes. With this being said, Waddell School will have a revised last day of school. The last day of school for students at Waddell is June 19th. It will be a full day of school. For families that this will be a hardship for, we are working with MELC to determine a way to provide assistance. We will be sending a communication to all families in the upcoming weeks with more information as to what this programming would be.
Lastly, Kindergarten Registration has begun. If you or someone you know has a child in Manchester who will be turning five by December 31st, please register online. Once registered, you will be contacted by Mrs. Brown, our school secretary, to attend one of our registration days at Waddell, May 11 and May 12. We look forward to seeing you!
Finally, next week, May 15 to May 19, is Teacher Appreciation Week! We are very proud of the hard work our teachers do and feel free to let your teachers know how much you appreciate all they do!
